With this concise definition close by, it very well may be surmised that social orders contrast from one another. In accordance with this, this paper will distinguish the distinctions and likenesses of the Indian culture from the Chinese society as far as their strict convictions, and on how these distinctions influence their way of life and their work. Indian and Chinese Society Geographically, the geographic solidarity of the Indian culture is limited by the solid social underlying foundations of the Indians. The assortment of culture and customs of the various gatherings in the Indian culture has gotten one of the solid obligations of the individuals, which are significantly portrayed in their writing. The Indian culture had progressed from Sanskrit to a Secular society; notwithstanding, this didn't adjust its solidarity. An Indian family unit has a characteristic fam ilial connection among guardians and kids. Endogamy is additionally polished inside the family so as to keep up bloodlines inside regal families. With this available, hypergamy likewise exists in the Indian culture, for example, on account of the standing Indian framework. à Aside from hypergamy, the Indian families likewise practice crumbling, which permits the family to be autonomous from each other. Beside this, two bases of feudalism are additionally introduced in India including the fiefs and the benefices. Then again, the essential quality of a Chinese society is likewise medieval. Besides, it has covered the social framework; be that as it may, the Chinese society despite everything kept up a portion of the qualities of a social framework so as to impact and regularize the conduct of the Chinese. In outline, the commonplace Chinese can be considered as a double, shut, coordinated, and stable society (Sharma, 2004; Peilin, 2012). The Effects of Religion in the Indian and Chin ese Society according to strict convictions, the Indian culture likewise endures diverse strict orders because of the wide exhibit of various gatherings in India. The Indian culture as far as religion is considered as one of the Asian social orders that permits a free rivalry among strict orders. Likewise, the Hindu religion puts stock in the model of guarantee in two structures. The first is the manifestation that can be improved by following the particular standards, and the second is the battle forever that must be finished through resurrection. Finally, the Hindu religion has confidence in consideration and salvation. Thusly, salvation can be accomplished through the beauty and absolution of the guardian angels who are alive. They accept of the soteriology or the demonstration of salvation all things considered, which can be accomplished through the absolution of confidence (Marx Weber, as refered to in Madan, 1979). According to the way of life and business, the Indian culture rehearses the standing framework, which is one of the center qualities of the Hindu district. One of the bases of work in the Indian culture is a religion that makes a line between the abused, the Dalits or the untouchables, and the rich. With the distinctions and the heterogeneous of the workers in India, there is a trouble in sorting out associations and gatherings for the assortment of representatives. Likewise, their occupations are regularly influenced because of the fatalistic convictions in fate and different offbeat convictions wrapping their religion (Prakashan, 2008). Like the Indian culture, the Chinese society permits the opportunity to pick one's strict inclination. Then again, in Chinese society, strict convictions don't preclude or influence their work as expressed and executed in their law. There are legislative approvals and disciplines that can be given to bosses who use religion as a premise while recruiting or Leroy Giffordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01493978691280932877noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-762491631060633.post-28535841502017175372020-08-22T17:37:00.001-07:002020-08-22T17:37:23.799-07:00Autism Spectrum DisordersChemical imbalance Spectrum Disorders has in the past represented a few difficulties to mankind as to tending to the situation of the victimsâ â . This issue is a reason for serious inescapable method of reasoning weakness, singular emotions, language issues and an unfriendly relationship to different people. This issue is basically analyzed at the beginning periods in youth and advances all through the remainder of the life of the influenced person. It is a mind boggling handicap in the formative phases of an individual realized by neurological confusion with extreme consequences for the typical cerebrum functioning. The ordinary mental health is affected explicitly concerning the regions answerable for social connection just as relational abilities. This is a genuine emergency in the wellbeing division because of the way that for each 150 kids beneath the age of eight years, one of them is a casualty of this issue (Uta, 1991).Social government assistance historyIn this general pub lic, mentally unbalanced and families with medically introverted youngsters were at first confronted with three normal difficulties in particular absence of money related, passionate and instructive help. The groups of the youngsters who are survivors of medically introverted confusion were gone up against by colossal budgetary just as passionate weights they additionally get little help as to the instruction of these children. The families have consequently to persevere through a noteworthy money related weight comparative with the families with upstanding kids. This emerges from the prerequisite of chopping down the calendars of work or a whole stopping of the activity because of the necessity of the obligation of thinking about these kids (Charles, 1992).Further more, there is a high possibility that the groups of the kids with ASD are inclined to postponed or even unattended social insurance necessities of their kids. They are presented to inadequacies and snags as to the entranc e of the clinical consideration required by their children.According to Anthony, no distinction was noted with respect too the entrance to common consideration, a medical attendant or an individual supplier in ordinary conditions. Anyway on the crisis of a unique issue for mentally unbalanced kids families, the essential contact point becomes distant and the entrance to referrals is denied (Anthony, 1998).These families are hence exposed to especially tremendous just as upsetting enthusiastic circumstances and money related requests. To confuse the issue, dominant part of the protection firms are resolved with regards to the inclusion of the requests of a medically introverted child. This is a direct result of their impression of the circumstance similar to a type of formative issue as opposed to a malady. It in this manner applies that the guardians of these kids are required to pay a lot of cash from their pocket to get to the administrations of occupation treatment and the languag e instruction for their children. The training of the mentally unbalanced kids is additionally confronted with a milliard of issues in light of the fact that the schools are prepared to offer a half day meeting for these kids. In this manner most of the guardians of mentally unbalanced kids select that they remain at home through and through (Simon, 1995).The history of this issue goes back to around 1911 in Swiss. ââ¬ËEarly juvenile autismââ¬â¢ was later begat in 1943 with the a lot milder Asperger condition coming a lot later. Inside the setting of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, we are given an understanding into the underhanded Edwin, the antagonist of poor-help. His part in the formation of a hindrance framework that engaged upon indoor help inside the feared workhouse as its center, made him disliked contemporaneously, and verifiably. Be that as it may, on the flipside of this coin, as one may expect, is a picture of a man of ethical quality. This Chadwick, in contrast to his previous pretense, has been proclaimed by students of history as one the extraordinary figures and advocates of general wellbeing. His Sanitary Report (1842) was and is, viewed as the spearheading bit of reformist writing that touched off the fire of general wellbeing in England.â [2]â Here I have indicated the different sides of Edwin Chadwick. These two apparently separate substances have been broke down by historians.à [3]à Yet, it appears that as of not long ago, Chadwick inside the general wellbeing setting has maintained a strategic distance from the examination that the previous poor law related Chadwick has endured. This can be ascribed to an extraordinary degree to the early historiographical gratefulness (or rather a deficiency in that department) of the new poor law. This picture of the brutality and flippancy of the Amendment Act and the negative examination of the poor law post-1834 started with Beatrice and Sidney Webb. Their well known, and various, volumes on English neighborhood government have to a great extent been disparaged by current students of history as to some degree ahistorical. It is at times extremely simple to put upon a contemporaneous recorded setting current mentalities and goals. Early chronicled perspectives encompassing the new poor law experienced this contemporary joining. In a similar vein, the historiography of general wellbeing corresponding to Chadwick can be seen as teleological. In the event that not teleological, at that point it absolutely experienced an absence of addressing of Chadwicks general wellbeing beliefs, particularly those clarified in his Sanitary Report. The confinements of this historiography are being cured by a present yield of students of history, including Christopher Hamlin, Mary Poovey, and somewhat prior by Anthony Brundage.à [4]à The facade of the Sanitary Report is being cleaned away to uncover the intricacy of Chadwicks goals covered up inside the grain. Students of history, for example, Hamlin have stressed the political idea of Chadwicks Report. This new evaluation of the Chadwick of general wellbeing has limited the hole between the Chadwick of the poor law. There is only one Chadwick. This exposition will ideally discredit this duality of Chadwick, and underline the likenesses between Chadwicks mentalities inside a poor law setting and those inside the Sanitary Report. There are politically charged strings that connect his work inside the Royal Commission for the poor law, somewhere in the range of 1832 and 1834, to that of his 1842 Sanitary Report. Both the poor law and sanitation were parts of Chadwicks more extensive reformist vision for England, yet for Great Britain.à [5]à Chadwicks national image of social association and improvement through unified administering bodies, self-oversight, reconnaissance and order depended on the array of a mass of proof and data. Centralisation, order, and insights are the key strings to comprehension Chadwick the government official, on the off chance that he was such by any means. Indispensable to a comprehension of Chadwicks political influence is the impact of Jeremy Bentham and his Utilitarian principles.à [6]à This is a string that will go through and nearby different strings; it is absolutely a huge part of the governmental issues of Chadwick. A few antiquarians propose that Chadwick was a result of Benthamite principles.â [7]â In this manner, an investigation of Chadwick without the consideration of Jeremy Bentham would be an extensively lessened comprehension of Chadwicks legislative issues. The topics of Utilitarianism run all through crafted by Chadwick. His thoughts on the cosmetics of the English or even British state depend to a great extent upon the lessons of Bentham.à [8]à The Poor Law Commission inside Chadwicks origination of authoritative bodies was along fundamentally the same as lines to that of Benthams Indigence Relief Minister. Besides, the later General Board of Health for which Chadwick can be ascribed, was comparative from numerous points of view to the Minister of Health set by Bentham. It is absolutely certain that Benthams standards significantly affected Chadwicks thoughts of focal association and administration.à [9]à Historians, for example, John Roach and Anthony Brundage have ascribed this molding of Chadwicks psyche to Benthams Constitutional Code. This time of Chadwicks li fe, when living with Bentham, and helping him draft the Constitutional Code, is placed as one of the most noteworthy and persuasive periods in trim his political, social and basic standpoint. However, as Helen Benyon has recommended, after Benthams passing, his understudy can be believed to leave to some degree from his code.à [10]à This disparity can be seen all through Chadwicks profession. For instance, Bentham believed an illustrious commission to be an instrument of monarchical tyranny.à [11]à Yet as is all around archived, Chadwick was intensely engaged with such commissions, remembering his part for the Royal Commission on the poor law, for which he assumed a noteworthy job. He even headed the Royal Commission on processing plants, and assumed an empowering job in the commission that brought about the death of the Public Health Act in 1848. This disparity isn't really negative. In numerous regards, an illustrious commission was an in vogue apparatus of the Victorian time frame which incited change. Hence, we can see Chadwick as simply utilizing the political roads that existed to proclaim his own reformist beliefs. What's more, quite a bit of what Chadwick made out of these commissions, in authoritative and hierarchical terms was generally utilitarian. This subject of centralisation and will be point by point in the procedure area. One staying point can be seen in Chadwicks resistance to all inclusive political emancipation, something which Bentham surely upheld towards the suitability of majority rules system. This move from Benthamism is unquestionably huge for later investigation of Chadwicks origination of social association inside his Sanitary Report. This ought not take away from the broad impact that Benthams belief system had upon the later work of Chadwick. He was not a total result of Bentham, his own past and ideological cosmetics blended and intertwined with the inert Benthamite standards, the most noteworthy of which can be seen in Chadwicks entirely national image of change and improvement towards intercession, and assessment through centralisation. Following this line of reasoning, we move into a key region of Chadwicks philosophy. Centralisation was a noteworthy part of the Chadwick model of association. It has its starting points in Benthamism; of an extensively national and uniform arrangement of institutional organisation.à [12]à An significant factor in this is the Whig government from the 1832 Parliamentary Reform Act all through the 1830s. As Brundage has recommended this Whig government managed the most exceptional times of government development in British history.à [13]à Reforms in territories, for example, the processing plants, the poor laws, training and police, all included the development of focal government. There is an unequivocal Benthamite flavor to this reformism. What's more, this impact could be seen in the figure of Chadwick, yet in moderate places of intensity. However Chadwick is, for the motivations behind this paper the most huge person. His incorporating vision is positively along utilitarian lin es. This was Bourne out of a theoretical and reasonable meaning of paternalism which could be joined onto his model of unified government. In any case, the Whig governments thought of paternalism was along the more conventional lines of upkeep of the predominance of neighborhood government. The Whigs were available to government development, yet just to maintain and fortify this conventional fatherly hierarchy.à [14]à In this regard one can see Chadwicks dreams of focal association as maybe being shaped by his contemporaneous reality. Britain was progressively an agglomeration of districts, wards, and precedent-based law courts than a state.à [15]à For his incorporated vision to be acknowledged, he would need to make concessions. The structure of association and organization for which he accommodated poor people law is a prime case of such a concession. He made the focal body of the Poor Law Commission, the inspectorial and supervisorial master of uniform alleviation, while keep ing the nearby organs. Be that as it may, these nearby associations managed a lot bigger topographical areas than under the old poor law, amalgamating a few wards together. Alongside this model under the poor law, the prior Factory Act, or Althorps Act went in 1833 is most likely a progressively huge pointer of the focal impedance of Chadwick. It was the primary bit of enactment in Britain dependent on a significant request by specialists involving surmising by the focal government, directed by operators of focal government.à [16]à This concentrated and uniform state driven philosophy can even be distinguished inside Chadwicks Sanitary Report. His vision of a national system of channels, siphoning new water into the homes and flushing out waste gives an extremely striking picture of state uniformity.à [17]à Furthermore, for the order of such a huge scope task, he underscores the requirement for a halfway sorted out arrangement of skill and authority. In 1848 the General Board of Health was set up. One can recognize inside Chadwicks work an all-encompassing reformist vision. Inside both the poor law (for which Chadwick has been adversely assessed) and the making of general wellbeing (for which he is the benefactor holy person) one can identif Leroy Giffordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01493978691280932877noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-762491631060633.post-41428191432672095412020-06-06T09:10:00.001-07:002020-06-06T09:10:03.825-07:00Mona Lisa Smile Review - Free Essay Example Directed By Mike Newell Written By Lawrence Konner Mark Rosenthal Produced By Richard Barrata (co-producer) Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas (producer) Joe Roth (executive producer) Paul Schiff (producer) Deborah Schindler (producer) Original Music By Rachel Portman Cinematography By Anastas N. Katherine Watson (Roberts) travels from California to the New England campus of Wellesley College, in the fall of 1953, to teach art history. In the post-war era, Katherine expects that her students, the best and the brightest in the country, will take advantage of the opportunities presented to them. Soon after her arrival, however, Katherine discovers that the environment at the prestigious institution is steeped in conformity. According to their poise and elocution, teacher Nancy Abbey (Marcia Gay Harden), an engagement ring on a young womans finger is considered a bigger prize than a well-rounded education. When Katherine encourages her students to think independently, she runs afoul of the more conservative faculty and alumni, including one of her students, the upper crust Betty Warren (Dunst). The recently married, Betty becomes a formidable adversary when Katherine persuades her best friend, Joan Brandwyn (Stiles), to apply to Yale Law School even as Joan is awaiting a proposal of marriage from her boyfriend. For the smart and provocative Giselle Levy (Gyllenhaal), Katherine becomes a much-needed role model and mentor. The sweet and shy Connie Baker (Goodwin) also draws courage from Katherines example and gains the confidence to break through her insecurities. In a world that told them how to live, Katherine teaches them how to think for themselves. Through her students trials to find their own way, Katherine learns to chart a different course for herself as well. Review Of The Movie World War II had been the first time in history when women were told they could do a mans job. They took off their corsets and took over the factories. Then, after the war, they were re-corseted with clear roles as housewives who supported their husbands and raised their children. On the surface it all seemed fine, but underneath the seeds were planted for the next generation. Mona Lisa Smile is an exploration of a time and place, after the war, where rebellion and individuality were very much frowned upon, yet the seeds of change had already taken root. The protagonist of the motion picture, Katherine Watson (played by Julia Roberts), is shown to be one of the most brawny, independent and liberal thinkers of her time. Settled in a time frame, where marriage was the whole and soul purpose of the existence of a woman, Katherine is seen to break those bonds and live on her own terms. She, just like any another girl, was also engaged to marry at the age of 18. However, after Pearl Harbor, she and her fiance realized that both of them had changed for good and called it quits, after which, Katherine went to L. A for graduation, and turned out to be an art history professor. She embodied the best kind of spirit for a teacher, one that allows individuality and exploration of our personal strengths. Though her students at first, regard her a spinster for being over the age of 30 and unmarried, Katherine feels comfortable with her decision which some of the young women find intimidating and others, empowering. The daughter of a Wellesley alumna who is as involved in the college as she is in her daughters life, Betty, regards Katherines challenge to the status quo almost as a personal affront. In the very beginning of the movie we see Betty being just horrible and condescending to everyone around her. Later, in the movie, you come across her mother, a formidable and intimidating woman, and you see why Betty turned out that way. When Bettys illusions are shattered and her perfect marriage is threatened, however, her cold exterior quickly thaws. All her life has been shaped by her mother and she believes that once she gets married everything will be perfect. But she doesnt love her husband and neither does he love her. Its just a planned affair. She pretends to be happy and puts on a smile. Finally, you see her break down. Ultimately, its Katherine who gives her the courage to be herself and fight her personal vendetta. Thats essentially what the movie is about, being true to yourself and becoming the person you want to be. Bettys journey is her inner battle between image and truth. She fights Katherines lessons and her presence at first only because, if Katherine is right, then her life is a sham. While she hails from the same social background as Betty, her roommate and class valedictorian Joan Brandwyn has a completely different reaction to intellectual challenges presented by her art history teacher. Like the other girls at Wellesley she knows how to recite and regurgitate information. Shes a great student, but shes a textbook great student. Then Katherine comes along and tells her to think for herself and thats really seductive to Joan. She is about to be engaged, but with Katherines encouragement, she decides to apply to law school anyway. Joan is the woman, Katherine decides, who has the most potential for change, so she devotes her energies to making sure that Joan recognizes that she has a choice. Once Joan chooses, Katherine needs to learn to respect her choice. Giselle Levy is a sophisticated student who shocks her fellow students by having numerous affairs at a time when such behavior was considered scandalous. When Katherine comes to teach at Wellesley, Giselle is fascinated. She has been desperate for some kind of validation for her unorthodox feelings and here is Katherine who acknowledges her difference and says its okay. Giselles essential problem is not her behavior, but the judgment thats placed on it by her peers and society at large. Giselle is pretty in-your-face and she doesnt know why everybody is making such a big fuss that she sleeps with more than one man. All shes saying is that you should eat food if it tastes good, dance if you like the beat and have sex if you want to have sex. Now, some people might say Giselles broken or unhappy, or that shes overcompensating for something, but I tried not to judge her while watching the movie. Though she has many advantages in life, Connie is plagued by insecurities. She thinks she doesnt have beauty, or talent, or smarts. All shes got are these other girls, and that is so important to her that she allows herself to be their punching bag. Yet, Connie possesses strong attributes, like her appreciation for the possibilities of love as well as her talent at playing the cello. The cello is Connies form of expression, the only form of beauty shes ever been able to associate herself with. Through Katherine, Connie gains confidence and opens herself up, for the first time, to the possibility of romance. Suddenly love becomes an option for her and not just a dream. And that sort of power enables her to put herself first for once. Like the other girls, she undergoes a real change. Connie realizes she doesnt have to go out and become Joan of Arc in order to be important in her own life. Nancy Abbey teaches speech, elocution and poise at Wellesley. Nancy is trying very hard to be representative of what she thinks a woman should be, which is simply lovely. There is a gentleness and grace about her manners and its a shame weve lost that sense of poise. But Nancy also has a turbulent underbelly caused by the repression of the times. Its poignant that Nancy chooses to remain at home, a spinster, because societys judgment about her age makes her feel its too late for her to go out and risk something different. Mona Lisa Smile is a real mirror of the period and a tribute to the Wellesley women who were the pioneers in terms of going out and forging paths and shoving their way into businesses that didnt want them. They were the generation who went out into the world and made a change. Throughout the movie, Katherine tries her best to empower women around her and to break the bonds that bind these intellectuals. The movie follows the journey of change in every individual and talks about the struggle of the individual male or female. Everyone is looking to find their proper place in life, where they can serve the most and be at their best. The movie doesnââ¬â¢t tell us what to think or it doesnââ¬â¢t distinguish right from wrong; instead, it paints a depiction of both sides of the story and states you can do both have a career of your choice and get married albeit doing it a little unsubtle at times. One of the things you realize while watching the movie is the sensitivity depicted in it. By the end of the movie, you realize that success may not mean the same thing to other people as it does to you. For a few, having a family, being able to manage your household and having dinner ready by 5 is a huge success; while for others, success could mean turning out as lawyers, doctors, etc. We realize that as Catherine tenaciously went about her business making a difference in the lives of her students and the people around her, she made a difference in her own life just as well. Her journey as a teacher was a part of her formation. We cannot make a difference in the lives of others without impacting our own. There is an ongoing dialectic that propels us into action for others, but it undoubtedly is action for ourselves as well. It is only in the end of the movie, that we realize that Catherine herself lives in the confines of her own biases and disregards. That is what changes about her ultimately and she makes peace with the traditionalists around her and accepts that some women will always be happier in families rather than in themselves, but also paves the path for women who wanted so much more than a family. Throughout the movie you see brilliant 1950 based sets, cathedrals and brilliant locations. The cinematography of this movie is quite fine as its simplicity is its brilliance as is the background score. The original work of Rachel Portman is outstanding as the theme of Mona Lisa Smile is quite addictive. The cast, crew and director, according to me, have done a splendid job with this motion picture. Though this movie has been thoroughly criticized and been compared to the old movie, the deadly poets, I am still very much of the opinion that this movie is one of its kind. It is a movie that truly moved me and which made me appreciate the fact that I was born in the 21st century where every woman thinks of herself as an individual first and then as a daughter, mother, wife, etc. Leroy Giffordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01493978691280932877noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-762491631060633.post-15971586735600247602020-05-17T05:37:00.001-07:002020-05-17T05:37:09.852-07:00Economic Growth Of A Global Village - 1114 Words Economic growth of countries has always been a topic of research interest. Whether the country is developed, developing or least developed, economic researchers tried to find the reason behind economic growth or the lack of it. With many other factors contributing towards economic growth, international trade was also found beneficial for both trading countries according to Edwards (1993). Today, when the world is becoming a global village, the importance and benefits of international trade cannot be ignored. Many theoretical and empirical studies have been conducted relating export import and economic growth. Previously, the focus was mainly given to export and export led growth ignoring the case that import in many ways increases export. Afterwards, many economists brought import demand in the scenario and captured the whole picture and relationship between export, import and economic growth. Empirical studies found different results for different regions and countries of the world. Some accepted and some rejected the relationship. Similar to many other developing countries, Bangladesh also aims towards high and sustainable economic growth. To maintain that determinants of growth are identified and policies are made according to that. Starting extensive trade liberalization during early 90s was one step towards that which clearly shows the result in terms of faster growing economy. Romeo and Juliet, set in Verona, tells the story of how two star crossd lovers life comes to an end after nothing but their deaths would put a stop to a long existing feud between their families. The play Rome and Juliet was written in 1595, inspired by a poem by Arthur Brook called The tragical story of Romeus and Juliet. This was written in 1562, one of the early origins of the play. Rome and Juliet is based around a mixture of love, hate, tragedy and disguise. Shakespeare added a few changes to the play such; Act 1 scene 1 was added, he invented the character of Mercutio who acts as a balance to Tybalt as they are on opposing sides of the two families. He also made the Nurse and Benvolio more important and shortened the time scale from 9 months to 5 days, faster pace is more exciting as it is more interesting for the audience. I think he made these changes to get people more interested and improve it for what he thought was best. Tragedy occurs as various points of the play, the most memorable bit being when both Rome and Juliet die, I thing this fits in well with the traditional idea of death in the play. Love also features in the play and links in with the tragedy as Rome and Juliets love for eachother ultimately leads to their deaths. Four main types of love are included in the play, courtly, true, sexual and dutiful. Rome and Juliets love for eachother is an example of true, where as Paris love for Juliet is courtly, rules that they were supposed to follow in marriage. Dutiful love is that where the marriage of two people is set up. True love is usually passionate and fast moving. Marriage was different then from how it is today, in their time girls married around the age or 13 or 14 and in most cases the ladys husband was picked by her parents. In play Capulets were reluctant to see this happen so quickly. She hath not seen the change of fourteen years. This is slightly true in our play and Juliet is reluctant to marry Paris but more than happy to marry Romeo, this is dramatic irony as the two were married the next day. The prologue is an introduction to the play which is meant to draw people in and make them find out more, similar to a blurb on a book. Shakespeare set it out as a sonnet, this is appropriate as sonnets nearly always include love and so does the play. The lines in the prologue all have 10 syllables. It is also set out chronologically to match the sequence of events in the play. Phrases included in the prologue which prepare us for the tragedy are; Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean which indicates that blood is shed which could refer to death. Another phrase is from fort the fatal loins of these two foes. This talks of the two families being enemies. Whose misadventurd piteous overthrows, a series of tragic accidents. This interests the audience into finding out what accidents happen. Lurhmann directs the play in a modern way; this could include contrast between the uses of language of then and now. He uses a news bulletin to begin to begin it, usually things which appear on the news are important, and it also introduces people to the play and the setting. The same thing is soon after repeated by Friar Lawrence with images included, these help us get an insight to the play and also the religious resemblance of it. Shakespeareââ¬â¢S Play ââ¬ËRomeo And Julietââ¬â¢ Essay PaperThere are many key characters in the play of Romeo and Juliet. We first meet the characters of Sampson and Gregory who are not so important but give us an important insight towards the situation between the two families and how they feel about eachother. Another character in the play is the Nurse, she is very bawdy and is not afraid to speak her mind. She is affectionate towards Juliet and sees her as a replacement to her own daughter who died years ago. The character of Mercutio was invented by Shakespeare and acts as a balance to Tybalt. Mercutio is Romeos best friend and his personality is that of he is reliable of trustworthy. Benvolio is a more sensible character and is a sort of a peacemaker, I do but keep up the peace. Romeo and Juliet are the two main characters of the play and are described as two star crossd lovers in the prologue. Juliet comes across as a very mature character compared to some others, even though she is younger than them, she is naive and loyal It is an honour I dream not of. However she is only loyal until the point where she refuses to marry Paris and marries Romeo instead. Romeo is a very passionate character and his feelings show towards Juliet. To begin with we first hear about Romeo being described as sad. He appears obsessed with love and is deeply in love with Rosaline. However, he soon is over her after he meets Juliet at the party. Paris character is not a very important one, but he adds a bit of shock for the audience when he asks to marry Juliet, it is exciting for the audience to see if this will hinder Romeo and Juliets love for eachother. Friar Lawrence is an important character as he adds the religious resemblance to the play, he also supplies Juliet with the potion which consequently ends Romeo and Juliets lives. In Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet there are 2 main ways in which the language is used. The first of the two is blank verse; it is used by the higher class people such as Lord and Lady Capulet. The second one is prose, used by more lower class people such as the Nurse. Romeo also uses it in a different way at one stage of the play as he talks in oxymorons; this helps us to establish his sad mood and interests us into what has caused it. Another noticeable change is in the speeches of the play and also in the prologue, they usually come to the end with a rhyming couplet. Which with you if patient ears attend, what here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend. The man themes in Romeo and Juliet are a mixture of love, hate, betrayal, disguise and fate. The main example of love is between Romeo and Juliet and hate between the Capulet and Montague families. Betrayal is shown when Juliet refuses to marry Paris and ends up with Romeo. Disguise is shown at the party when Romeo and a few other Montagues go in masked disguise to the Capulet party. Shakespeare makes act 1 exciting by the use of a range of styles of language and devices. Some events are memorable for the audience because they have shocked them, such as Sampsons comment in the first scene. The heads of the maids or their maiden heads. The clear feud between the two families also helps us prepare for the tragedy. A faster pace is used during arguments and makes the characters words more aggressive and threatening. I feel the prologue and the first act sets up the whole play and in a way lays out the foundations for it. They are both exciting and intriguing for the audience, this makes them want to find about the rest of the play and you can see clear links back to prologue in various places of the play. Some, who had naively assumed that ending slavery would resolve the problem Of racial inequality, overlooked the prejudice and unpleasant leaning towards blacks. Noons plan for reconstruction was aimed at reuniting southern states with the union and to strengthen the Republican Party in the South; which were his main supporters. One of the main purposes of Lincoln plan for Reconstruction was that all slaves be freed. In Lincoln Emancipation Proclamation, he stated that all slaves would be declared free in those states still in rebellion against the United States (Lincoln Emancipation Proclamation: January 1, 1863). However, this only pertained to those states which, after that date, came under the military control of the Union Army. It did not concern slaves in states such as Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and parts of Virginia and Louisiana, that were already occupied by Northern troops. Under Lincoln plan, for a state to be permitted back in the union, voters had to take an oath of loyalty. If 10% of voters took the oath, statehood would be re-established. Fonder comments that Lincoln did not recognize emancipation as a social revolution or believe that Reconstruction would bring about social ND political changes outside of abolishing of slavery (36).Lincoln main objective was political and although he is given credit for freeing the slaves, African Americans earned and fought for this right during the Civil War. President Lincoln was assassinated in April 1 865 for what was a direct correlation to his freeing of slaves. President Lincoln was a very smart man in that he knew by freeing the slaves, it would further his cause to get the nation under his control. Andrew Johnson succeeded Lincoln for the Presidency after Lincoln unfortunate assassination.Joy moons continued Lincoln moderate policies after Lincoln assassination, but ratification in the South of the Black Codes and demand in the North for stricter legislation, resulted in victories for Radical Republicans in the congressional elections of 1 866 (Senate and Mattson 1 10-111). The Black Codes were a new form of slavery that forced restrictions on freed slaves such as barring their right to vote, forbidding them to sit on juries, limiting their right to testify against whites, carrying weapons in public and working in certain jobs. President Johnson vetoed numerous bills in reference to equality for freed slaves. These bills included he Freedmans Bureau and Civil Rights which he vetoed in April 1866 (Fonder 247-251). Radical Republicans appro ved the Civil Rights Bill after Johnnys veto and were also able to get the Reconstruction Acts passed in 1 867 and 1868. Despite these acts, control over Southern state governments was steadily restored when organizations such as the UK Klux Klan were able to terrify blacks from voting in elections (Senate and Mattson 122). Once Lincoln was out of the way, Radicals believed they could shape Johnnys policy. When he disregarded their input they attempted to impeach him in 1968 but failed by one vote. Not condoning President Johnnys actions but attempting to remove Secretary of War and replaced him someone else was grounds for impeachment. Deeper reasons for his impeachment would be that Johnson was working out in hopes of rectifying the Reconstruction effort and you cant simply assassinate two Presidents in a row. Radicals such as Ben Butler even endeavored to make a connection between Johnson and the murder of Lincoln (Bowers 164). The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments had been added to the Constitution by the end of 1870 and resulted in the promises of abolishing slavery made by Lincoln in Emancipation Pr oclamation. In his 2nd Inaugural address, Lincoln advocated that the Civil War was Gods punishment of a nation having human beings kept in bondage (Abraham Lincoln Second Inaugural Address: March 4, 1865). Just for a slight moment was Lincoln goal realized before the acts of then President Johnson attempted to strip away Lincoln foundation for freedom. Before Lincoln was assassinated he managed to get the thirteenth amendment passed in House after it failed to do so in 1864. This was important for Lincoln with elections coming up and he knew that if this wasnt eased his chances of reelection would be doubtful. The thirteenth amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude and was the first grant of civil rights given to African Americans (thirteenth Amendment: January 31, 1865). The 14th Amendment was passed into law and protects the rights against state infringements, defines citizenship, prohibits States from interfering with privileges and immunities, requires due process and equal prote ction, punishes states for denying vote, and disqualifies Confederate officials and debts (Fourteenth Amendment: June 16, 1866).For the first time the word equal was established into the Constitution. As a result of the Civil Rights Bill and the Fourteenth Amendment, permitted African Americans the power to make their own labor contracts and commence lawsuits, and delegated upon the federal government the power to protect equal rights and citizenship to all its citizens. The 1 5th Amendment was added to the Constitution which forbids states from refusing citizens the right to vote on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude (Fifteenth Amendment: December 7, 1968).These three bills that were deed to the Bill of Rights and laid the groundwork for equality were African Americans would be treated fairly and equally in society; something that simply didnt occur during Reconstruction. Beginning in 1 867, Congress passed Reconstruction Acts that permitted Black males who had been slaves the right to vote and hold public office. Johnson vetoed the Reconstruction bill when it reached his desk on March 2, 1867, but Congress was swiftly overrode his veto and passed it into law (Bowers 155). John W.Meaner was elected to the House of Representatives from Louisiana UT was barred from assuming his seat in Congress by white members. Meaner made history by becoming the first Black American to ever address Congress while defending his claim for the seated he rightfully deserved (Dray 70). Joseph Haynes Rained was the first Black seated member in the House of Representatives. Rained a native of South Carolina, momentarily owned a slave and served in the Confederate Army (Dray 55). Hiram Revels became the nations first Black senator in 1870 by represented Mississippi in the U. S. Senate. He was a minister and newly appointed senator that like Meaner, had o fight for his seat in Congress (Dray 70). Revels was admired for his overestimated skills and he used those skills to fight efforts to keep Washington D. C. Schools segregated and to assist black workers from being barred from working in the Washington D. C. Navy yard. Radical Republicans such as Senator Charles Sumner of Massacre guests and Congressman Thatched Stevens of Pennsylvania fought for bills that would help the freed slaves assimilate into the American society and achieve equal rights with their white citizens (Dray 53).Stevens was largely known for his role in engineering he impeachment of President Johnson. These capitol mens thirty-one years of occupancy in Congress came to a halt on March 4, 1 901 , when both houses of North Carolina legislation passed resolutions denied blacks the right to vote (Dray 351 As soon as the Union Army withdrew its troops from the South, life and liberty were at risk for African Americans.Southern states werent intimidated by the Fifteenth Amendment which gave African Americans the right to vote and led by Mississippi and South Carolina conceived ways to stop their citizenship and voting rights (Senate and Mattson 126). There were three static integrated to eradicate African American voters from the polls; criminal convictions, poll taxes and literacy tests. Although these devices were absurd, if someone has committed a criminal offense, then they dont deserve the right to vote.Of course this law still applies today to criminals but when you look at the times these devices were put into place and the racist people who judge these men, you have to wonder i f some had committed any crimes at all. The main issue with this tactic is that whites that had committed the same crimes were permitted the right to vote which goes directly against the Fifteenth Amendment. The poll taxes was a very clever idea in that if you African Americans wanted to vote, they had to pay the tax nine months earlier and keep the receipt when they came to the polls. If a person lost their receipt they couldnt vote and were turned away. This tactic was the most unjust out of the three; why the Southern states would chose a timeshare Of nine months in advance to pay the poll tax but who is going to be able to keep a receipt in excellent condition let alone still have possession after nine months. The last ploy used was that a potential voter had to exhibit that he could read ND understand sections of the state constitution (Senate and Mattson 126-127). This makes sense because if someone sins familiar with the state constitution they are voting on, then why are they voting. The problem with this is that the registrar was the only judge which left room for discrimination. All southern states had passed laws to keep African Americans from voting. These laws were renowned as the Grandfather Clauses and resulted in whites who may had lost the right to vote, the right to vote. These Grandfather Clauses enforced a law passed in Louisiana that prevented African Americans from voting. The law stated that No male person who was on January 1st, 1867 or at any date prior thereto, entitled to vote And no son or grandson of any such person Hall be denied the right to register or vote (Senate and Mattson 127). Now this one was over the top because African Americans werent given the right to vote until after March 2, 1867. With this in mind, the law is biased to practically every African American in the state. The government sat back and allow this to occur, knowing that the Southern states are deceptive is one thing button put it into law is another. In conclusion, if President Lincoln wasnt assassinated, most of these horrendous acts may have been avoided in African Americans struggle to oppose inequality. Many literatures have cited the varied effects of divorce on children. The most significant findings are affective (Carry, 1989) and behavioral (Wright, 1984) disturbances. Particularly, boys have been observed to be prone to anger (Pieri, 1985). Wilson and Ruth (1985) have speculated that the increase of behavior disorders and juvenile delinquency can be attributed, in part, to the increasing divorce rate. In their study of 300 juvenile delinquent boys, Cook and Turner (1978) noted a divorce rate among parents that was significantly higher than in a non-delinquent group of comparable age and socio-economic status. Absenteeism and referrals for disciplinary action were more frequent in a sample of Minnesota junior high school students whose parent were divorced than in a sample of students from unbroken families. (Zuk, 1987) Clinical theorists have presented a convincing rationale for these findings. Pieri (1985) has pointed out that the breakdown of the nuclear family and, as is typical, the departure of the father from the family, leads to anger stemming from the change in family status, disruption of secure routines, blame casting, depression, and economic stresses. Boys, who are apt to be more closely identified with the father, are more likely to display anger in the form of aggressive acting-out behavior (Wright, 1984). It is important that these clinical observations and theoretical formulations are subjected to more rigorous scientific assessment. The purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that boys of divorced parents are prone to anger, thereby providing research support for existing theoretical formulations. This investigation aims to offer experimental confirmation of the idea that anger is a distinguishing characteristic of boys of divorced parents. Bibliography Reference Bridgeman, W. N., & Alvon, K. Slums are on the extreme end of capital cities and people survive on less than a dollar a day. The rate of internet consumption is still not high and democracy is in its primary stages. Information is only limited to a few number of people and the rest, the low-income earners, are subjected to doctored information that is useless. Opinion leaders are left with the mandate of spreading this information, a role with which they perform with zeal and zest in propagating lies. The rules and regulations that govern internet consumption have been tightened to ensure minimal or no criticism is directed to the Government. Again, it all depends with the Government of the day. From the above theoretical argument, itââ¬â¢s imperative to note that certain factors ought to be put into consideration. These factors include internet connectivity and ignorance from the target group of people. This group of people may not be willing to use the internet like in the third world countries mostly in Africa, the level of ignorance is very high. This theory seeks to establish a footing in the long run on the principal independent variable which forms an analysis the relationship between democracy and the independent variables. Arthur Pete insisted on getting the best coffee there is in the world, import it and control its production to end up with a high quality product. Tasting for the coffee was done with absolute precision to maintain the quality established in the initial days. Peet believed in direct delivery to maintain the quality of the coffee. ... His coffee received mixed views from the first customers when he introduced it. While some claimed that the coffee smelt burnt, others appreciated the dark well blend quality coffee Peet introduced. Within no time, Peetââ¬â¢s coffee became popular among students, musicians, writers, artists and practically everyone in within the region. His coffee became so popular that some experts related the group of Peetââ¬â¢s coffee lovers to a cult. It was not well understood what was with his coffee and more and more people joined the club of taking and loving his coffee. This necessitated the opening of the second coffee shop which opened at Menlo Park. He opened the third outlet at Domingo Avenue in 1980. Three years later, Arthur Peet sold Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee and Tea for unknown reasons to Jerry Baldwin, who had founded Starbucks the same year with two other partners (International Directory of Company Histories, 2001). Baldwin also insisted on quality and went ahead to spread Peetâ â¬â¢s business principle of quality and not quantity. Baldwin continued with Starbucks and the performance of the venture surprised them. Within no time, they were opening their third store due to popularity of their coffee. Three years later in 1987, Baldwin sold Starbucks interestingly, to a former employee of Peet, Howard Schultz. The reasons for Baldwin selling Starbucks are not well known but is claimed that he stated that Starbucks was not as good as Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee and Tea. Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee and Tea was conservative in some ways and was not looking for expansion like Starbucks, which went on an expansion campaign from the 1980s. Rather, Peetââ¬â¢s coffee and Tea was looking for reputation among customers and the only way that would be Leroy Giffordhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01493978691280932877noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-762491631060633.post-44932662270201227632020-01-31T10:33:00.001-08:002020-01-31T10:33:05.879-08:00Milk and Ice Cream Products Essay Example for Free Milk and Ice Cream Products Essay Ice-Fili was originated in a Soviet government established company in 1937 and privatised in 1992. Briefly its business areas are purchase raw materials from abroad, manufacturing ice creams, and distribution them through subsidiary distributors for domestic markets. In 2001 Ice-Filis equity amounted to $10,638,000, and with its least liabilities total equity and liabilities was $11,832,000. Over half of the total assets was working capital of $6,338,000. Total sales was $25,147,000, net income was $1,702,000, consequently ROA was 14. 4% and ROE was 16. 0% (see Exhibit 7). Financially Ice-Fili helps itself on business. For the most essential raw material to the ice cream taste, Ice-Fili only uses higher percentages of milk fat of high quality as well as high price imported from abroad, which makes difference Ice-Fili from foreign producers. Cost of ingredients forms as much as 42% of manufacturers price. Ice-Fili invented for modernization of manufacturing equipments which were imported until the 1960s. Total expenses of equipment, maintenance and advertising share only 17% of manufacturers price, but Ice-Fili must pursue up-to-date technology as well as equipment from abroad. Traditionally Ice-Fili had not participated in distribution activities. Ice-Fili contracted with companies such as Eskimo-Fili for kiosks, Service-Fili for minimarts, gastronoms and restaurants, Alter-West for gastronoms, restaurants, supermarkets. Costs of retailers and distributors reach 52% of retail prices (the rest of 48% is manufacturers price), but exposures of Ice-Filis products to customers is behind those of foreign competitor Nestl? Ice-Filis daily production capacity is 200tons and number of ice cream products is 170, in which exceed those of domestic and foreign competitors. However the Swiss food giant Nestl? invades in Russian ice cream markets with its long-term investment and frequent exposure of TV advertising. The boundaries of the business area of Ice-Fili are not defined by its self-helping financial status and uniqueness of raw materials, manufacturing equipment and distribution channel, but also business dispute in the share with Nestl? Pupils had to pass an examination, and unsatisfactory performance could lead to being expelled. l History. This concentrated on the rise of the Nazi Party, the injustices of the Treaty of Versailles and the evils of communism and the Jews. l Biology explained Nazi ideas on race and population control. Pupils were taught how to measure their skulls and to classify racial types; also that Aryans were superior and should not marry inferior races. l German. This taught pupils to be conscious of their national identity by reading about German heroes of the Hitler Youth and First World War. l Geography taught about the lands, which were once part of Germany and the need for more living space for Germans. l Religious studies became less important and by 1937 pupils could drop the subject. Girls usually had a different curriculum from boys. They also studied domestic science and eugenics (how to produce perfect offspring by selecting ideal qualities in the parents) c) The Hitler Youth was an organization formed by the Nazis, for young boys or girls to join this organization at the age of 14 and do hiking, singing folk-songs, camping and sport. The German Maidens was an organization for girls only. They had to do similar activities and tests as the boys, but in a certain extent it was slightly less military. Both boys and girls marched in exciting parades with loud bands. They were also physically fit and their leisure time was devoted to the Nazis and Hitler. They were strong cross-country runners, and confident at reading maps. After years of summer camps, they were comfortable camping out of doors, and the boys knew how to clean a rifle and keep it in good condition. d) The boys were preparing to fight in battles, they had to be fierce and grow hate for Jews, and show no any mercy to any of them. In many different places in the story it is evident that Ali and Nino have been taught some completely different things about the world in general. The first major example that I found is when Ali speaks with his father and Ninoââ¬â¢s father about marrying Nino. Although they are both somewhat supportive of the marriage, they both send completely opposite messages. Aliââ¬â¢s father tells him that the love for Nino is not necessary and that if he wants Ali can still marry up to three more wives. Contrary to Aliââ¬â¢s fathers belief, Ninoââ¬â¢s father feels very differently. He feels that he must show unconditional love and treat her with the dignity and respect that she deserves. He also feels that he should focus all her energy and love on her rather than having any other wives. If Ninoââ¬â¢s father doubts Aliââ¬â¢s for his daughter, maybe that is part of the reason why he tried to postpone the wedding. The second example I found is when Nino tells Ali he absolutely can not have a harem because it is considered a disgraceful tradition of Aliââ¬â¢s background to Nino and her family. Ali agrees that he will not have a Harem and then the question of whether or not Nino will have to wear a veil. After a bit of deliberation between Ali and Nino, they were still unable to reach a conclusion to whether or not Nino would have to wear a veil. Nino does not understand why a women must wear a veil whereas Ali feels that it is very important that the women does so that Nino will be protected from strangers looks. Although Ali and Nino are very much in love there are very many cultural differences and misunderstandings that make this inter religion/faith marriage a bit more complicated. This idea of religious differences and cultural misunderstandings really hits home for me. As a Jewish adult, it has always been very important to me to marry someone of the same faith and belief system. As I have grown up I do believe that the most important thing is being happy and that being accepting of all peoples values and morals is very much important. Out of personal experience, I have two relatives that both decided to marry out of the Jewish faith. Neither of these marriages have worked out very well in regards to my family. The first relative of mine ended up getting divorced and is now going through a custody battle for his children. The other relative is still married to his wife but does not talk to anyone on our side of the family due to many reasons but mostly because she was not willing to support his Jewish identity and background. It is ignorant in my opinion to think that inter faith marriages can never work out, because a lot of them do. But in my experiences with my family they have not. Regardless if people can make them work, it is definitely harder than marrying someone with the same faith as you. With religion comes a system of ideals, morals and beliefs and if someone has those same values as you do, there will be less cultural misunderstandings and cleavages than if you married someone with different values than you. So the whole idea of cultural differences through religion complicating thing relates both very closely to my life in terms of my family and Kurban Saidââ¬â¢s Ali and Nino. Josef Goebbels was the man most responsible for the Nazi?s racist indoctrination of the Germans, as the Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. He led the national takeover of all forms of media and entertainment that targeted and eventually penetrated the educational, recreational and religious institutions of Germany. Goebbels? goal was to depict the Jewish community as ?not German? and also as a group of people who had no loyalty to Germany, and even establish them as less than human through the Nazi Eugenics ideology. These myths were mostly perpetuated by films, rallies, books, newspapers, and posters. These efforts continued systematically despite efforts by anti-Nazi groups like the European Union and the White Rose, groups who were composed of anti-fascist Germans who produced many anti-Nazis propaganda leaflets during the war. These groups despised Nazism and wrote newsletters leaflets debunking the myths orchestrated by the Nazis propaganda machine, however their efforts were largely unsuccessful, as millions of German citizens believed the Nazi rhetoric regarding the Jews (ushmm.org). Nucor claims to be North Americaââ¬â¢s largest recycler of any material, recycling one ton of steel every two seconds. The total annual steelmaking capacity of the company is 25 million ton. [3][4] [edit]The REO Era Nucorââ¬â¢s origins are with auto manufacturer Ransom E. Olds, who founded Olds Motor Vehicle Company in 1897 (later, as Oldsmobile, to become a part of General Motors). Having left his company years before it was acquired by GM, in 1905 Olds established a new company, REO Motor Car Company, the predecessor to Nucor, in Lansing, Michigan. Though Oldsââ¬â¢ cars, including the luxurious REO Flying Cloud, were popular, they were not profitable, and the companyââ¬â¢s more successful truck business (featuring the famous REO Speed Wagon) was still not sufficiently profitable to avoid a bankruptcy filing in 1938. As part of the bankruptcy reorganization, REO exited the car business to concentrate on trucks, and after World War II, attempted to diversify into lawn mowers. The reorganized company continued to underperform, and finally in December 1954, REO sold off its entire manufacturing operations to Bohn Aluminum and Brass Company (suffering a $3 million loss on the sale). [edit]The Nuclear Corporation Era After the sale, REO was left with $16 million in cash on hand and no trading businesses. The company initiated liquidation proceedings, with the goal of selling its few remaining assets and distributing the cash to creditors and shareholders. However, a group of dissident shareholders noticed the tax loss and successfully challenged the liquidation in a proxy fight in September 1955. In what amounted to a ââ¬Å"reverse hostile takeoverâ⬠, activist shareholders forced REO to take over a tiny nuclear services company called Nuclear Consultants, Inc. Following the purchase, REO Motor Company emerged as ââ¬Å"Nuclear Corporation of America Inc. ââ¬Å", and relocated to offices in the Empire State Building in New York City. Nuclearââ¬â¢s attempt to recast itself as a nuclear industry services company was ultimately no more successful than REO had been. Nuclear then followed the example of other companies in the 1950s and 60s and attempted to become a conglomerate, once again moving its headquarters, this time to Phoenix, Arizona. During this time it would purchase, among others, Vulcraft Corporation, a steel joist manufacturer located in Florence, South Carolina. Vulcraft had been founded by Sanborn Chase (no relation to the coffee company), who died at an early age, leaving the company to his widow. Nuclear purchased Vulcraft from Chaseââ¬â¢s widow in 1962 and, in a sign of things yet to come, hired F. Kenneth Iverson as general manager. But Nuclear the conglomerate fared no better than Nuclear the nuclear services company or REO the car/truck/lawn mower manufacturer, and in March 1965 filed for bankruptcy for the second time in 27 years. The Board of Directors fired Nuclearââ¬â¢s President (and, in the process, had to return his private jet to him), but for two months could not find a replacement, as nobody wanted to head a corporation that was most likely going to go out of business. Finally, Samuel Siegel, an accountant with Nuclear (and friend of Iverson) who had actively been looking to leave the company, informed the Board of Directors he would remain with the company under two conditions: Iverson would become President and he (Siegel) would become Chief Financial Officer, conditions the Board quickly accepted. [edit]The Nucor Era Iverson and Siegel quickly reorganized Nuclear around its only profitable business, steel-fabricator Vulcraft. All other businesses were either sold or liquidated. The company moved its headquarters yet again, this time to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1966, to be closer to its main Vulcraft plant. Unable to get favorable prices from American steel manufacturers, and unhappy with the imported steel available at the time, Iverson (a metallurgist by training) decided to integrate Nuclear backwards into steel making by building its first steel bar mill in Darlington, South Carolina in 1968. The company chose to purchase an electric arc furnace, which was far cheaper than the traditional steel blast furnace, courtesy of a US $6,000,000 bank loan from Wachovia. Although the early days were tough (once the American steel manufacturers learned Nuclear was operating its own mill, they canceled their contracts)[citation needed], Nuclear was finally able to obtain the financial success that had eluded the company from its beginning. In 1972 the company (recognizing that there was nothing ââ¬Å"nuclearâ⬠about making steel or steel products) adopted its current name. Since that time, Nucor has expanded into other steel products, gained some control of its raw material supply and greatly expanded its market presence. In the 1990s, Nucor bought Birmingham Steel, including the Mississippi Steel plant and Birmingham, Alabama operations. In September 2000, Dan DiMicco was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer by Nucorââ¬â¢s Board of Directors. Under his leadership, Nucor has acquired compatible existing steel manufacturing facilities with similar operating philosophies. Since 2007, Nucor has made the two biggest acquisitions in its history, one to help control its raw material supply and the other to expand its product line. In January 2007, Nucor agreed to pay $1. 07 billion dollars for Canadaââ¬â¢s Harris Steel Co. The deal allowed Nucor to expand its presence in the type of steel used to build bridges, highways and other infrastructure projects. [5] Prior to 2007, Nucor had a single brand, Nucor Building Systems which consists of four facilities in Indiana, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. 6] In August 2007, Nucor acquired the four brands of Magnatrax (American Buildings Company, Gulf States Manufacturers, Kirby Building Systems and CBC Steel Buildings) for $280 million to bolster its share in the pre-engineered metal building systems market. As a result Nucor Buildings Group was created. [7] In February 2008, Nucor agreed to pay $1. 4 billion for DJJ, one of the largest scrap brokerages. Analysts said the deal would help Nucor pocket more of its sales. In May 2008, Nucor also announced two joint ventures overseas to capitalize on thriving construction markets outside the U. S. By Mid-2008, Nucor operated 53 facilities throughout the United States and one in Point Lisas, Trinidad. The company also maintained operations through wholly owned subsidiaries, Harris Steel and the David J. Joseph Company (DJJ). Since this time, when the stock reach its peak value (mid-2008), the company has lost one-third to one-half of its market value, and has not recovered as of 2012 [8] [edit]Nucor Today Nucor had sales of $11. 19 billion in 2009 and employed 20,400 workers. The 2009 loss of $293 million posted by Nucor was its first annual loss since 1966. Nucor 2009 Annual Reportâ⬠Steel products produced include: Bars (carbon and alloy steel) Beams Sheet/Flat Rolled Plate Steel joists Joist girders Steel deck Fabricated concrete reinforcing steel Cold finished steel Steel fasteners Metal building systems Light gauge steel framing Steel grating Expanded metal Wire and wire mesh In addition, through DJJ, Nucor also brokers ferrous and nonferrous metals, pig iron and H RI/DRI; supplies ferro-alloys; and processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap. [edit]The Nucor Culture The Nucor Culture can be summarized in five areas: decentralized management philosophy, performance based compensation, egalitarian benefits, customer service and quality, and technological leadership. Underlying these elements is the fact that none of Nucorââ¬â¢s plants, whether built from scratch or acquired, are unionized. Nucor is opposed to unions, believing them to be a destructive force in the US steel industry. No Nucor plant has ever held a successful union certification election, even though Nucor management has not engaged in the controversial ââ¬Å"union bustingâ⬠tactics adopted by other companies. The company has never laid off an employee due to a work shortage. [edit]Decentralized Management Philosophy Nucor is highly decentralized in its operations, there are only five managerial levels at Nucor (supervisor/professional, department manager, division general manager, executive vice president, and President/CEO). Most operating decisions are made at the division level or lower. In addition, Nucor claims that its corporate office staff numbers around 75 employees, which may possibly be the smallest number of corporate office employees among major corporations. [edit]Performance Based Compensation All Nucor employees, from senior officers to hourly employees, are covered under one of four basic compensation plans (in addition to base pay) which reward employees for meeting certain incentive specific goals and targets: Production Incentive Plan: Operating and maintenance employees and supervisors at the facilities are paid weekly bonuses based on the productivity of their work group. The rate is calculated based on the capabilities of the equipment employed, and no bonus is paid if the equipment is not operating. In general, the Production Incentive bonus can average from 80 to 150 percent of an employeeââ¬â¢s base pay. Department Manager Incentive Plan: Department Managers earn annual incentive bonuses based primarily on the percentage of net income to dollars of assets employed for their division. These bonuses can be as much as 80 percent of a department managerââ¬â¢s base pay. Professional and Clerical Bonus Plan: This bonus is paid to employees that are not on the production or department manager plan and is based on the divisionââ¬â¢s net income return on assets. Senior Officers Incentive Plan: Nucorââ¬â¢s senior officers do not have employment contracts. They do not participate in any pension or retirement plans. Their base salaries are set lower than what executives receive in comparable companies. The remainder of their compensation is based on Nucorââ¬â¢s annual overall percentage of net income to stockholderââ¬â¢s equity and is paid out in cash and stock. In addition to these established bonus plans, Nucor has periodically issued an extraordinary bonus to all employees, except officers, in years of particularly strong company performance. This bonus has been as high as $2000 for each employee; during 2005 two such extraordinary bonuses were paid and another in 2009 was paid(per the 10-K filing). edit]Egalitarian Benefits Nucorââ¬â¢s senior officers are not provided traditional ââ¬Å"perksâ⬠such as company cars, executive parking spaces, or executive dining rooms. In fact, several programs (such as Nucorââ¬â¢s Profit Sharing, Scholarship Program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Extraordinary Bonus, and Service Awards Program) are not available to Nucorââ¬â¢s officers bu t only to lower-level employees. As a symbol of Nucorââ¬â¢s egalitarian culture, each annual report since 1975 has listed the names of every employee. In 1975, there were 2,300 workers and their names fit on the back cover. In the 2007 annual report, it took 12 pages to list the names of all 18,000 employees. In August 2006, the company did purchase a corporate jet for use by senior management. In a letter to all employees from the CEO, Dan DiMicco explained that the frequent rentals of charter jets made a corporate jet purchase a cost-effective measure. [edit]Customer Service and Quality Nucor is a member of the U. S. Green Building Council and has participated in other elite environmental programs, such as the Environmental Protection Agencyââ¬â¢s National Environmental Performance Track program. Nucor has also sponsored construction of a regional butterfly aviary, launched a waterfowl protection project and helped preserve wetlands. Several divisions have environmental management systems that conform to ISO 14001 standards. [edit]Technological Leadership Nucor was among the first steel companies in the United States to use electric arc furnaces to melt recycled steel (primarily from junked automobiles). In 2007, Nucor recycled nearly 10 million cars in its production processes, the equivalent of one SUV every four seconds. The companyââ¬â¢s website maintains a running count of the tons of recycled steel used during the current calendar year. Currently, Nucor (in conjunction with two foreign-owned steel companies) operates a facility in Crawfordsville, Indiana that continuously casts sheet steel directly from molten steel without the need for heavy, expensive, and energy-consuming rollers. The process (known as Castrip[9]), if successful, would allow an entire mill to be built in 1/6 the space of a ââ¬Ëmini-millââ¬â¢ and at 1/10 the cost of a traditional integrated mill. They call this concept a ââ¬Ëmicro-millââ¬â¢. Also, Nucor has two pilot projects, one in Western Australia and one in Brazil, which are developing low-cost sources of iron for use in its mills. [edit]Environmental record In 2000, Nucor settled with the U. S. Justice Department and the United States Environmental Protection Agency to resolve allegations that it had not adequately controlled the emission of toxic chemicals into the air, water, and soil of Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah. The $98 million result was ââ¬Å"the largest and most comprehensive environmental settlement ever with a steel manufacturer. ââ¬Å"[10] The University of Massachusettsââ¬â¢ Political Economy Research Institute in 2002 ranked Nucor as the fourteenth-largest corporate contributor to U. S. air pollution, with a toxic score of 152,421 (pounds released ? toxicity ? population exposure) due to the release of 760,000 pounds of toxins into the air yearly. [11] Since DiMicco took charge of Nucor in September 2000, he has emphasized that he wanted the company to become a leader in environmental performance. Nucor has added environmental staffing and training and adopted new technology ââ¬â in some cases, groundbreaking technology that Nucor is working to patent and license to other companies. The number of toxins released, as measured by the University of Massachusetts study, has dropped by more than 35 percent. Nucor is considered to be the largest steel recycler in the U. S. ââ¬Å"We have always been green,â⬠explains Shell. ââ¬Å"NBS buildings average over 80 percent recycled content. â⬠Projects fit with the industry trend of implementing green initiatives. Even though some laws are passed that violate the civil rights of people in the United States, the Supreme Court corrects these errors. The cases reviewed here ask if it is okay to compose and mandate prayer in schools, whether the death penalty is Constitutional, and how much privacy is given to the American people. In the following Supreme Court cases, the reader will find that the decisions made are Constitutional and ensure that the civil rights of Americans are protected. The First Amendment to the Constitution forbids the government form supporting religion. In the Supreme Court case, Engle v.. Vitale, a New York school system composed a prayer and forced children to pray in the mornings at school. This action by the school system clearly violates the no establishment clause of the First Amendment, which states, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion The Supreme Court ruled six to one that it was unconstitutional for schools to compose and mandate prayer. The Engle decision was a good decision. Since the government now had no say in how school children prayed, the rights of minority religious groups were protected. This decision ensures that students in schools across the country will not have to go against their religion to please the government. Because this decision ensures the peoples right to worship in the way that they choose, American society as a whole benefits from this decision. The Eighth Amendment to the Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. In the case, Gregg v. Georgia, the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty was not unconstitutional as long as it was not arbitrarily applied. This case was accurately read because the writers of the Bill of Rights did not believe that the death penalty constituted cruel and unusual punishment. They believed that cruel and unusual punishment was punishment that inflicted excessive pain on the convicted. Since the death penalty is humane, it does not constitute cruel and unusual punishment and is therefore acceptable to use as a form of punishment. The Gregg decision was a good decision. The death penalty is a fair and just punishment for those that have committed capital offenses. Although some might argue that it is a revenge-based punishment, it is only doing to the convicted what he did to his victim, although in a way much less painful. Because the death penalty is humane, causing almost no pain to the person being executed, it is a fair and allowable punishment for those that deserve it. The Ninth Amendment to the Constitution allows citizens more rights that those listed in the Constitution. It can be inferred that the writers of the Bill of Rights meant for privacy to be included in this amendment. In Connecticut, there was a law that forbid the use and distribution of information about contraceptives. This law was overruled by the Supreme Court in the case, Griswold v. Connecticut, when it ruled that the law violated Constitutionally protected privacy. The government only has the right to censor information if it endangers national security or if it is considered obscene. Since the use and distribution of information about contraceptives does not fall under any of these categories, it is not Constitutionally correct for the government to violate peoples privacy in the way that it did in the Connecticut law. The Griswold decision was a good decision. Because people deserve and are Constitutionally given privacy, it seems illogical that a state would make a law like the one that was made in Connecticut. .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf , .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .postImageUrl , .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf , .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:hover , .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:visited , .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:active { border:0!important; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:active , .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uad02ae622eefe6c6fc78c4a573dcc3cf:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: War is one of the most tragic things in our world Essay This type of action can be interpreted as a state not respecting a persons right to privacy, which is not only unconstitutional, but wrong. Sophocles. London: J.M. Dent Sons, 1906. HERACLES: How many and how fierce and sore to tell The labours I with body and hands have wrought! And such an one not even the Spouse of Jove Set me, or the abhorred Eurystheus, ever, As this, which ?neus daughter crafty-faced Fitted upon my shouldersthe web-toil Woven of the Furies, which is killing me. For plastered to my sides, it has gnawed off The surface of my flesh, and settles in And battens on the channels of the lungs, And has already drained all my fresh life-blood, And through my whole frame I am overthrown, Worsted by this unthought-for fetterment! Treatment such as I never yet endured No, not from lances in the battle-field, Or Giants earthborn army, or Centaurs might, Or Grecian or barbarian, or all lands Which I, cleansing their borders, visited; But one sole womana female, not a male By sexweaponlessputs an end to me. O boy, now show yourself my true-born son; Set not the name of mother all too high; But with your own hands hale out of the house And render her that bare you unto mine, That I may know whether you grieve to see This form of mine abused, rather than hers Righteously punished. Up, my son, take courage! Have pity on me, whom any men might pity, Weeping and moaning like a girla thing No one could say that he had seen me do Ever before; rather, where hardships led I followed uncomplaining. Now, alas, Falling from thence, I have been proved a woman. And now come near; stand by your fathers side; See under what mischance I suffer thus; Here, I will show you without coverings; Lo, behold all, a miserable frame! Mark me, poor wretch, how I am pitiable!O woe! Alas, ah me, Again, once more, that racking fever pain Right through my side! The desperate gnawing plague Will not release me from its harassing; O Hades, king, receive me! O Joves lightning, strike me! Smite me, O king! And countless other toils I tasted of, And no man set up trophies over me! Now here I lie, with dislocated bones, With lacerated flesh, by a dark mischief Utterly cast away, unhappy! I, Named of a mother most illustrious, Reputed son of Zeus, Lord of the stars! But be ye sure of this; though I be nothing, Albeit I cannot move, even as I am, Her who did this, still, I can overcome; Let her come only, that she may be taught, And have it to relate to all, how I, Living and dying, punished wickedness! Its sufferers are both the children afflicted with social impairment and the parents who struggle everyday to support them. Autism deprives its sufferers of the capability of having significant relationships and communication with other individuals, it causes them to become withdrawn and cancel any human contact. Perhaps the most overlooked part of this disease is the pain and guilt that it causes parents who often find it hard to love a child with no emotions, with little human traits. While the past 30 years have brought some progress towards the diagnosis of Autism, it seems that this disorder is so complex and volatile that it is very difficult to treat. Autism is a disorder with a clear genetic origin. Studies have revealed that both single gene mutations and multi gene interactions are responsible for the condition. Twin studies from the early seventies illustrated that if one identical twin has Autism, the other sibling is 90% likely to also have it as well (Gray, 970). This offers immense backing for the genetic hypothesis. However there has also been evidence that non genetic reasons can be to blame for Autism. Prenatal viral infections including Rubella have been confirmed to be harmful to the fetus brain and at times responsible for Autism (Gray, 970). Women who are exposed to pesticides during pregnancy are eight times more likely to have a child with Autism (Gray, 972). No matter what the cause is Autism is a disorder that weakens the growth of a childââ¬â¢s brain and causes noticeable social problem. Indicators of Autism start very early with 80 percent of autistic children displaying abnormalities before the age of 18 months. The occurrence in America is 6 per 1000 births and it affects boys four times as often as girls. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics there are several red flags for Autism. These include no babbling or gesturing by 12 months of age, no single words by 16 months, and no two word phrases by the age of 24 months (Gray, 972). As children get older, and even grow into adulthood other more established symptoms become noticeable. Perhaps the universal trait of Autism is a fixation with repetitive, patterned things (Gray, 973). Autistic toddlers can be observed doing the same thing for hours in complete silence (Gray, 973). Young Autistic children are much less likely to respond to stimuli including their names (Gray, 974). They rarely show eye contact and are more likely to play with another personââ¬â¢s hand (Gray, 975). Around the age o f five, children are less likely to come up to others and play with peers, and show a complete indifference to social norms. As they reach adolescence autistic children are very likely to have few friendships, become depressed from loneliness and suffer from occasional but profound temper tantrums (Gray, 975). Autism is a complex disorder with an incredible range of different manifestations. Around 30 percent of autistic individuals are mentally retarded with an IQ below 50. These obviously have the poorest outcomes as adults. Mentally retarded autistics may never develop language or even the concept of social connection. They are inclined to live in institutions and some cannot even feed themselves or use the bathroom without assistance. On the other hand, Autistics with IQââ¬â¢s ranging from 70 to 90 have a 60 percent chance of living independently and can work on simple jobs. An interesting finding is that autistics with higher IQââ¬â¢s can often posses above average language skills and be mistaken by others to be highly intelligent. Yet they lack the ability to understand the feelings and intentions of other people, making them socially awkward and incapable of forming lasting relationships. On the extremes of the spectrum are the highly intelligent autistics, which clearly show the complexities of the human brain. Also known as Asperger Syndrome, this form of the disease makes up for social inadequacy by often giving people highly superior perception and memory. Highly intelligent autistics often can be incredible painters, musicians, and mathematicians, while lacking the most basic social skills. The most extreme version of this is savant syndrome, where autistic individuals possess super human abilities. Kim Peek, a savant made famous by the movie Rainman, has the ability to remember a 900 page book word for word, while being incapable of carrying the most simplest of conversations. It is almost impossible to create a universal treatment for Autism because its effects are so different in every individual. Intensive treatments and behavior therapies are often applied from an early age, in attempt to lessen the profoundness of the disorder. These treatments try to teach social skills and promote communication in autistic children. Early intervention has shown to have some positive results, but even supporters have admitted that great improvement is highly unlikely. Observation has shown that autism can worsen or improve with age completely on its own. More than half of autistic children are prescribed psychoactive drugs including anti-depressants and stimulants to help control their symptoms. Either than this, little else can be done to help autistic individuals. Because autism is a problem in the way the brain innately works, rather than being a problem of neurotransmitters like other disorders, treatment options are so limited. It is unfortunate that wil l all of our advances in modern medicine, we still have so little options against the curse of Autism. A few strengths of the article are that it gives a great deal of information of what Autism is as well as how Autism has been viewed. It also gives a look into how having a child with Autism can affect the parents as well as the child. The author gives insight into the Autism spectrum. Interacting with individuals with Autism can be stressful for anyone is not only an adjustment for the community and the parents but the individual also. I did not really find any weaknesses in the article to critique. In the amount of time I have been working my internship with the population of developmentally disabled individuals, I have found that a vast majority have Autism Spectrum Disorders. I sit in amazement as I watch how they interact with each other and the staff. It is truly an adjustment for the families leaving their loved ones in the hands of strangers per se, but it is also an adjustment for many of individuals with Autism being away from their families and familiar surroundings. The equipment conforms to the requirement of CISPR 16-1, CISPR 16-4-2, ANSI C63.2 and other required standards. Calibration of all test and measurement, including any accessories that may effect such calibration, is checked frequently to ensure the accuracy. Adjustments are made and correction factors are applied in accordance with the instructions contained in the respective manual based on lab accreditations such as FCC (602285)-USA, VCCI (Japan) and ISO/IEC (170025)-CNAS agencies (Refer to Lab Accreditations Table at end of report). There were no special accessories used during these test and there is no EUT modification or test standard deviation. Prior to taking the formal emissions data collected in this report many hours of pre-testing have been performed. The selection of the worst case system documented in this report was based upon this pre-testing. The portable laptop system (EUT) was set up as per the test configuration to simulate typical usage per the user's manual. When the EUT is a tabletop system, a wooden table with a height of 0.8 metres is used and is placed on the ground plane as per EN 55022. Associated equipment, if needed, was placed as per EN 55022. ... 4.2 Radiated Emissions 5. Electromagnetic Emissions Test 5.1 Line Conducted Emissions Test - Measurement Procedures Utilized for Conducted Emissions The portable laptop system (EUT) was set up as per the test configuration to simulate typical usage per the user's manual. When the EUT is a tabletop system, a wooden table with a height of 0.8 metres is used and is placed on the ground plane as per EN 55022. Associated equipment, if needed, was placed as per EN 55022. All I/O cables were positioned to simulate typical actual usage as per EN 55022. The test equipment EUT installed received AC power through a Line Impedance Stabilization Network (LISN), which supplied power source and was grounded to the ground plane. All associated equipment received power from a second LISN. For conducted emission test on telecommunication ports, a telecommunication port is connected by its signal cable to an impedance stabilization network (ISN). During the testing, the LAN utilization is in excess of 10 % and sustain that level for a minimum of 250 ms. The traffic rate is monitored by the program of NetSpeed. The EUT test program was started. Emissions were measured on each current carrying line of the EUT using an EMI Test Receiver connected to the LISN powering the EUT. The Receiver scanned from 150K Hz to 30MHz for emissions in each of the test modes. During the above scans under battery charging mode, the emissions were maximized by cable manipulation. The EUT configuration and cable configuration of the above highest emission level were recorded for reference of the final test. - Conducted Emissions Test Data The following data was collected with a spectrum analyzer in peak detection mode, unless otherwise noted.
